Building Social Relationships 2: A Systematic Approach to Teaching Social Interaction Skills to Children and Adolescents on the Autism Spectrum organizes the myriad evidence-based social skills strategies and resources currently available to make it easier for parents and educational professionals to teach social skills and design social skills programs for children with ASD.

A comprehensive five-step model addresses the need for social programming for children and adolescents with ASD: assessing social functioning, distinguishing between skill acquisition and performance deficits, selecting intervention strategies, implementing intervention, and evaluating and monitoring progress. Rather than promoting a single strategy, this social skills model details how to organize and make sense of the myriad social skills programs and resources available. Building Social Relationships is the winner of the Autism Society of America's Outstanding Literary Award. This second edition, emphasizes the importance of targeting both social skills and social-cognitive processing.

This sensitive, clear, and easy-to-read book provides a vast menu of choices to help people with autism spectrum challenges achieve social fluidity and success. Scott Bellini is a great example of learning from the best. His own positive attitude and great social skills are reflected in his approach to this vital information.

--Susan J. Moreno

Bellini offers parents and teachers a systematic approach to teaching social interaction skills to children and adolescents on the autism spectrum in a world where too few of these young people are offered such help. As he points out, all too often our loved ones experience peer failure, rejection and bullying, as well as intense social anxiety and social isolation. This book fine-tunes the practical, systematic approach to improving their social skills that Bellini advocated in the first edition, published almost a decade ago.

Building Social Relationships (BSR) is now available as on-line training courses. The purpose of the on-line courses is to provide a practical and convenient alternative to the traditional "go-sit-and-listen" in-service trainings that are the current norm in education.

The on-line courses blend the best content from the author's traditional workshops, with the instructional and technological methods learned via 10 years of providing on-line instruction at the university level. The courses are designed to be rich in content, while also being engaging and useful for educators and practitioners.

Scott Bellini, PhD, is an associate professor with Indiana University School Psychology program and the director of the Social Skills Research Clinic that provides psychology students to gain experience conducting diagnostic evaluations, implementing social skills programming for children, and conducting applied research for children with ASD. Bellini, who speaks internationally, is a licensed psychologist and a health service provider in psychology and has worked in a variety of settings, including schools, psychiatric hospitals, university clinics, and private practices. Building Social Relationships is the winner of the Autism Society of America's Outstanding Literary Award.
